Balloon Mold Sticking Problems Experience by Customer

Beacon Medical Products, a medical balloon blow molding company located in Bluffdale, UT, specializes in producing thin-walled medical balloons using medical-grade polyether-based aromatic Thermoplastic Polyurethanes (TPUs). These balloons require a precise mold release process due to their wall thickness of only 0.0005 inches.

Balloon Mold Sticking Problems Experienced by the Customer

Beacon Medical Products faced significant operational challenges including sticking and tearing of the medical balloons during the production process. The delicate nature of these balloons, compounded by the specific material characteristics of the TPUs, demanded an effective and compliant mold release solution.

Nanoplas Mold Release Solution

After using various products without success, Bryce Smith, a seasoned professional in medical and injection molding, turned to NanoPlas for a viable solution. NanoPlas recommended their Heat Cure HCF Coating, which is FDA-compliant and has recently received NSF M1 certification, making it safe and effective for use in medical manufacturing environments.

The recommended molding temperature settings for the balloons are between 60 – 140°F (15 – 60°C) for the mold and 370 – 440°F (188 – 227°C) for the melt, depending on the specific TPU product used.

Results: State of The Art Medical Balloons Without Issue

The implementation of Heat Cure HCF Coating led to transformative results for Beacon Medical Products. The use of this coating significantly reduced the occurrences of sticking and tearing:

  • Enhanced Efficiency: The application of Heat Cure HCF facilitated a smoother release of medical balloons from molds.
  • Increased Production Capacity: With more reliable mold release, Beacon was able to boost its output without compromising the quality or integrity of the balloons.
  • Reduced Downtime and Cost: The durability and effectiveness of Heat Cure HCF decreased the frequency of reapplications needed, which in turn saved time and resources.
